Usage

Sikaflex®-292i is suitable for structural adhesive bonding in marine constructions exposed to high dynamic stresses. Suitable substrates include metals, especially aluminum (including anodized aluminum), metal primers and coatings (2-component systems), ceramic materials, and plastics such as GRP (unsaturated polyesters), ABS, etc. Consult the manufacturer before using Sikaflex®-292i on materials sensitive to stress cracking. This product is for use by experienced professionals only. Always conduct tests on original substrates under local conditions to verify the compatibility of the adhesive with the material.

Substrate Preparation

Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil, and dust. Pre-treatment depends on the specific nature of the substrate and is crucial for durable adhesion. Suggestions for surface preparation can be found in the latest version of the Marine Pre-treatment Chart. Note that these suggestions are based on experience and must always be verified through testing on original substrates.

Application

Sikaflex®-292i can be applied between 10 °C and 40 °C (ambient and product), but changes in reaction and application properties should be considered. The optimal temperature for the substrate and adhesive is between 15°C and 25°C. Note that viscosity increases at lower temperatures. Condition the adhesive to ambient temperature before use for easier application. For an even adhesive layer thickness, we recommend applying the adhesive in the form of a triangular bead.

Sikaflex®-292i can be applied using manual, pneumatic, or electric-driven guns or pump equipment. The open time is significantly shorter in warm and humid climates. Always install components within the adhesive's open time. Never join parts if the adhesive has formed a skin.

Finishing and Smoothing

Finishing and smoothing must occur within the skin formation time. Sika® Tooling Agent N is recommended. Other tooling agents should be tested for suitability and compatibility beforehand.

Removal

Uncured Sikaflex®-292i can be removed from tools and equipment using Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically. Hands and uncovered skin should be cleaned immediately with cleaning wipes or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Do not use solvents on the skin!
