Application
Suitable for:
For sealing, protecting, and repairing roofs, walls, cracks, joints, channels, and connections. Excellent adhesion (without primer) to a variety of materials such as concrete, metal, stone, wood, zinc, PVC, and EPDM (always test in advance). Applicable to horizontal and vertical surfaces and suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications, such as sealing channels, floor seals, expansion joints, frame connections, and underground constructions. Also suitable for waterproofing under tiles in wet rooms and swimming pools. Perfect for airtight sealing of the building envelope. Airtightness is tested according to EN 12114 and EN 1026. Not suitable for PE, PP, PTFE, and untreated Bitumen.
Processing
Before use
- Processing conditions: Only use above +5°C.
- Surface requirements: SMP-300® can be applied to damp surfaces, but avoid puddles of water. New concrete structures must dry for at least 28 days.
- Surface preparation: Remove loose cement and dirt with a hand brush and clean the surface of dust and grease.
- Tools: Caulking gun, GRIFFON Wipes
- Product preparation: Stir by hand until a homogeneous color is obtained.
- Consumption: ± 5 meters at Ø 10 mm
During use
- Instructions: Open the can and apply the first layer with a brush. Apply in 1 (Airtight constructions) or 2 (Waterproofing) layers. Apply the first layer to the surface with a brush or roller. Use GeoTextile from Griffon for joint, crack, and crack-bridging applications. Press the GeoTextile into the wet layer until fully saturated with the coating. Apply a second layer of SMP-300® within 1 hour (or at least before skinning occurs) on the GeoTextile, or after the first layer has fully cured (approximately 6 - 8 hours*). Optionally, sprinkle slate chips into the still wet layer to create a cohesive appearance for the entire roof. *Coating cures through moisture and moisture in the substrate.
- Advice: Always ensure a minimum layer thickness of 1.5 mm (Waterproofing) and 1.0 mm (Airtight constructions) after curing (wet=dry). For temperatures between 0°C - 5°C, pre-place the sealed aluminum bag in a bucket of warm water to improve workability. For gaps, connection joints, or seams > 5mm in partition walls, first use Griffon HBS-200® Flex Foam or PE joint cords. After full curing, the coating can be painted over with both acrylic and alkyd paints. The drying time of alkyd paints may be longer. Always test in advance. Adhesion of plaster and tile adhesives on the coating can be improved by applying a surface-enhancing quartz primer (Primer for non-absorptive surfaces).
- Points to note: The coating is resistant to light rain after 30 minutes and to heavy rain after 50-60 minutes. Fully waterproof after 12 hours, depending on relative humidity, temperature, and substrate. Be aware of longer curing times at lower temperatures and less humid weather conditions. It can be applied to bitumen treated with slate. Do not use the coating on untreated or rough bitumen roofs as it may discolor or detach over time. Always ensure the required minimum layer thickness to provide lasting mechanical resistance. If using a joint sealant in combination with SMP-300® coating, we strongly recommend using a neutral silicone or SMP sealant, such as Griffon S-200 or Poly Max® Fix & Seal, to prevent discoloration of the sealant. Not suitable for PE, PP, PTFE, and untreated Bitumen.
After use
- Stains/residues
Uncured residues can be cleaned with Griffon wipes or solvent. Cured residues can only be removed mechanically. - Storage conditions: Well-sealed containers should be stored in a dry, cool place at temperatures between +5°C and +25°C. Shelf life: At least 15 months in unopened packaging. An opened package reduces the shelf life.
